A First Step Toward Hope

Updated: Sep 12

At Deliverance Driven Ministries, we believe no one is too far gone for God’s love to reach them. Michael is living proof of that.

After spending more than a year adrift, battling despair, and carrying the weight of broken hope, Michael’s spirit was crushed. Once told he had only months to live if he didn’t stay clean, he felt like there was no way forward. With nothing left, he drifted through the streets, trying to numb his pain with alcohol and substances.

A Chance Encounter

One day, Michael was standing outside a gas station, weary and in pain. He asked for a dollar. Unlike many who would disguise their intentions, he was honest; he admitted it was for alcohol.

But what he received instead was not what he expected. Rather than being handed money, he was offered something far greater: food, not just for the body but the soul, dignity, and the reminder that his life still mattered.

A Meal and a Conversation

When asked where he’d like to eat, Michael pointed across the street, not to a snack, but to a real meal at a KFC. As he sat down to eat, tears welled in his eyes. He began to open up, sharing pieces of his story.

Michael revealed that just the day before, he had been struck by a car and left for dead. He had broken ribs, an injured arm, and pain that reached deeper than his physical wounds. “No one has time to help anymore,” he admitted through tears, stunned that someone stopped to care.

In that moment, over a warm meal, Michael experienced something he hadn’t felt in a long time: compassion.

Hope Returns

That meal was more than food for the body; it was food for the soul. For the first time in years, Michael felt seen, valued, and worthy of care. A glimmer of hope sparked in his heart.

This was just the beginning of his journey toward transformation. What started with honesty at a gas station and a simple act of kindness would grow into steps of faith, sobriety, and restoration.
